I highly recommend it. I bought this book for my 8th grade English class to read. It is an amazing story of hope and courage, and the kids were really able to identify with many of the characters.
But after things get too far between the Soc gang, and the Greaser gang(which the main character is part of), his world just starts crashing down. Its a story of a misunderstood boy caught up in the world of gangs and the world of daydreams. You'll laugh, and cry reading this novel and I highly recommend it to someone whos doing a book project, or if you just need a good book to read, the outsiders is for you. I read this book as a classroom assignment at school, and I have to say that it was really interesting. I was impressed of how good it was and the plot was amazing.
Now, most of the kids in my class don't like it anymore.I also re-watched the movie and that wasn't as bad as the book, but still pretty close. He went through all that just to learn those lessons he already had in the first place. The movie tried to use beautiful music and lovely backgrounds to try to make us feel bad. Sadly, I'd rather read Twilight (another book I didn't really like) a hundred times before I'd read this again. Looking back, I can't see why I even liked it. First off.I'm using my mom's account:DI'll confess that, when I was in 7th grade, I first read this book for English class and I loved it. I had to read it again in 9th grade, and it was still pretty good. Now that I'm older, it seems childish and stupid.
And too many other questions. In 7th grade again, there was only one kid in the class that didn't like it. This book was just an endless marry-go-round.If you want a good and less-violent book about coming of age, I'd recomend Sisterhood of the Travel Pants or Can't Get There from Here. Not to judge people. Respect your brothers. Now, I'm thinking of questions I didn't think of in 7th grade like: Why do these guys get so much enjoyment out of beating up each other. Always tell the truth. Now, as an 11th grader, I read it a third time.
After the movie and book ended, I was thinking, "but what did he learn." What did Ponyboy learn. How did Darry keep custody of his brothers. As a Tomboyish 7th grader, the violence and smoking was cool for me. Why didn't Ponyboy and Johnny just go to the police and tell them it was self-defense.
Onece the rich kids wich were the socs found two greasers at the park, then they started an argument. well I also liked the way the two gangs were fighting. Everytime the two gangs faught the Greasers always lost. Wow. That cause a big problem if you want to know what it was maybe you should read the book your self. I actualy picked The Outsiders book because of the way tha cover of the book was. Reading The Outsiders was the best thing I have done. I liked The Outsiders because of the way the author kept expressing himself he used so many old language like tuff ment cool in the old days.
This is a typical example of a cheaply done sob stor desperately trying to be literature-which, of course, failed. This book is absolutely horrible. Read something good and hope you are never forced to read this awful book. This book deserves none of the prestige given it. S.E. Hinton had no idea what she was doing when she wrote this.
